TE 803 Professional Roles and Teaching Practices II
Instructor: John Walcott
TE 804 Reflection and Inquiry
Instructor: Matthew Missias
These two courses were taken in conjunction during my year-long teaching internship. During this course we spent time looking at the role of the teacher within the classroom and also a developer of curriculum. As Social Studies teachers we spent time analyzing what our roles were regarding culture, agency, and empowerment in the classroom, especially in traditionally under-served populations. Part of the coursework was spent in developing curriculum that included elements that allowed all students to access the content through a variety of modalities, especially literature, while still meeting state standards. Time was also spent learning about, and perhaps more importantly, reflecting and discussing, the role of the teacher within the classroom and the larger teaching world as well, and how to meet goals and obstacles in a professional manner.

Spring 2011
CEP 810 Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Susan Wright
This course was an introductory course to the world of Educational Technology and the TPACK model. During this course I was introduced to a tremendous amount of tools, focusing on those that were cloud-based that could be used by teachers and students. Beyond that, these tools were used in different projects, including small group work, to produce various digital products-really giving us a working knowledge of the tools, especially Google Docs and social media. Time was also spent considering our role as a learner and what direction we would like to take our learning within the program.
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Instructors: Jodi Spicer and Dr. Leigh Graves Wolf
The focus of this course was to use technology wisely as a teacher-that is, not simply as "bells and whistles" but as a tool that can help all students engage and learn the content at hand. The theory and practice of Universal Design were thoroughly explored and we were asked to create a STand Alone Instructional Resource (STAIR) that any student could use on their own. We also looked at various instructional resources, including Webquests, as a means to allow all students to explore the content in a way and pace that suited them.

Summer 2011
CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructor: Susan Wright
This course had us focusing on a "real world" problem; a hard to tackle issue due to the changing nature of education and finding solutions using technology. During the Wicked Problem Project, I chose to examine the feasibility and utility of providing students with tablets in a district that could not afford textbooks beyond a classroom set, which was limiting students ability to do work outside of the classroom. We also worked in small groups to create a digital professional development, in which our group produced a video instruction on how to utilize Google Docs.
CEP 800 Learning in Schools and Other Settings
CEP 815 Technology and Leadership
CEP 822 Approaches to Educational Research
Instructor: Dr. Punya Mishra
These three courses were taken as part of an intensive summer hybrid program that took place both on the MSU campus and in the digital realm. The core ideas behind all these ideas were blended into a comprehensive immersion into the world of Educational Technology, Teaching, and School Leadership. During our time together we tackled issues of motivation (for both students AND teachers) and resources, and what the roles and responsibilities are of teachers who have extensive background in Educational Technology. While focusing on these issues we also enhanced our technology skills by completing various projects such as the Understanding Understanding project which challenged us to help "break" a common misunderstanding using technology (ours was the shape of a raindrop). We were also asked to think big with the DREAM IT project in which we were asked to 'dream' from beginning to end about using technology to really drive our teaching. Here I chose to have students have access to laptops in my classroom (along with a thumb drive) in order to have them really start working with historical documents in order to question historical narratives, especially as presented in textbooks.

Fall 2014
CEP 820 Teaching Students Online
Instructor: Dr. Anne Heintz
During this course close attention was paid the ever changing world of online learning and various delivery systems available for use, and the issues that surround this topic. We were given tools on how to evaluate various systems and curriculum choices, especially if building from the ground up. Various Course Management Systems (CMS) were explored to see the range of tools and programs available to us. This aided in the creation of our major project for the course, a Unit within our own course management site. My chosen topic was American Imperialism.
CEP 807 Capstone Course in Educational Technology
Instructor: Dr. Matthew Koehler
This final course in the Master's program has students developing and reflecting on their time within the program with the creation of an online portfolio that showcases work past and present, and serves as a means of presenting each student as teacher, learner, and educational technology professional. Reflection and peer-review played an integral part in the learning and building of the website that would showcase our thoughts on our time in the Master's program and our digital skills.
